October 2020: “Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos” by R.L. LaFevers

“Theodosia and the Serpents of Chaos” by R.L. LaFevers is an interesting novel for any age reader. It is a mix of fantasy, history, and adventure, with a strong female character at the lead. She is a very relatable and engaging character, and the author really brings her to life in the pages of this book.

Theodosia is a young girl who can detect and counteract curses from ancient artifacts that she finds in a museum on London. That Museum happens to be owned by her parents, who do not believe in her abilities and believe her to have an overactive imagination. One day, however, when an artifact called the Heart of Egypt is brought to the museum, Theodosia’s skills are put to the ultimate test.

GEMs recommends this book because it is really engaging and captivating. It covers themes of family, friendship, and education, all in one interesting story. It is easy to get lost in this book and it is hard to put down once you start. What’s also great is that this is one in a series, so if you like this book there are four others in the set that you can try!
